Ew, Creepy! Part 3
So, there’s this wild pair of pigeons that keep landing on the guava tree branch behind Lupus’ crib. Every time they crash there for the night, they snatch little twigs, broomstick handles, and Mami’s overgrown grass to patch up their tiny nest. They never get tired of fixing up that little nest, man.
At first, there were only two pigeons, but now they’ve multiplied and become a squad of four. Those four pigeons are like natural decorations in Lupus’ backyard, bringing a whole new vibe to the place, you know?
What’s weird is that nobody knows where they came from, man. Lupus even tried asking the neighbors if they lost any birds, but they just called him a perv. Like, seriously?
Anyway, during the day, those birds go out and find their own grub, leaving the backyard behind. Sometimes, they even leave early in the morning and come back when the cartoon shows are on TV.
One morning, before they took off, they made a pit stop at Lulu’s wide-open bedroom window. Man, it looked like Lulu was in deep concentration, sitting at her study desk and scribbling on a blank piece of paper. Should we mess with her a bit? Like, peck at her fountain-like ponytail? Nah, better not. Let’s just bounce before Lulu throws her eraser at us. And off the birds flew.
“If I were one of those birds, I wouldn’t be sad like this,” Lulu whispered softly as she watched the birds fly away.
Wait, what’s up with Lulu? Why is she getting all sentimental like that?
Oh, turns out she’s got a thing for this new dude she’s crushing on. The guy isn’t really that cool, man. From the side, he kinda looks like Tom Cruise, from the back he’s like Tom Howell, but up close, he’s just like any other dude. But Lulu’s head over heels for him. Although, if you ask Boim, well, it’s better not to ask Boim. Haha!
If I remember correctly, the dude’s name is Suryadimulya. He’s tall but always gloomy. At school, they call him the gloomy kid. But Lulu’s head over heels for him.
Usually, when Lulu’s dealing with problems like this, she spills everything to Lupus. It helps her feel better, you know? But this time, it’s a tough one. She doesn’t want every problem to revolve around heartbreak. That’s not fun. Lulu’s feeling pretty down, man, to the point where this dude keeps hurting her.
Suryadimulya, even though he’s always gloomy, is a total player. He’s had so many exes, like Lusi, Cindy, Ira, and even Lulu.
But Lulu feels like her heart won’t be at peace until she spills everything to Lupus. So, since this morning, she’s been brainstorming, trying to figure out how to do it.
Finally, she decided it’s best to write a letter. She’s gonna keep it on the down-low and leave it in Lupus’ room for him to read when he gets back from school. ‘Cause that’s when Lulu’s gonna be out for the afternoon.
She let out a sigh of relief. After tidying up a bit, she grabbed her Snoopy pillow and headed to the bathroom.
Exactly at twelve noon, Lulu rushed to school, hoping to avoid running into Lupus.
Lupus, who had just returned home, noticed a letter stuck to his bedroom door, and he could easily guess who the sender of that striped envelope was. While taking off his school uniform, Lupus lazily opened the letter. But surprise, surprise, there was a thousand rupiah bill tucked inside.
Lupus got excited. He quickly read the contents of the letter.
“Yo…
Sorry for interrupting, but I have something to tell ya…
Remember last Saturday night when we watched Twins at Sania’s cinema with Suryadimulya Rondonuwu Honitua Siyaranamual Ahmad (ugh, his last name doesn’t match at all)?
You know, the guy we introduced you to when he came over to my place that Saturday night!
Well, turns out Suryadimulya Ron, uh, too much of a hassle, let’s just call him Surya, okay, bro? He was born on a train or something.
Anyway, Surya bumped into his ex-girlfriend that night. Turns out he still has feelings for her. I don’t know why, but he seemed really restless at that moment.
And he was with me, bro.
I tried to understand him, bro, even though I was pretty annoyed at that time. Why did he suddenly get all sentimental? Suddenly, he started thinking about his past.
Maybe it’s weird, maybe he regrets everything that happened. And he realized, suddenly, he’s trying to forget it all. But I know, he can’t lie to himself about his feelings. He was just being sentimental at that moment. I could feel it, bro.
I know, bro.
But I think his behavior was so human, bro. Maybe I would’ve done the same if I were in his shoes. At first, I wanted to get mad. If I followed my feelings, I would’ve just left him to deal with his own emotions.
At that moment, he really didn’t appreciate my feelings. But I held back. I tried to think rationally. In the end, I couldn’t bear it. I held his hand and tried to take him away from his past.
Yeah, bro, I wasn’t mad. I finally tried to act normal again.
But, bro, there’s something that disappointed, saddened, and annoyed me so much. It’s when he honestly said that he regrets breaking up with his ex-girlfriend.
It made me want to cry.
Okay, I respect his feelings, but he didn’t respect mine at all.
That’s why I’m writing this letter to you, bro.
I need a place to share my story.
From your sweet little sis,
Lulu
NB: Oh, yeah. Earlier when I was about to put this letter, I casually reached into your jeans pocket hanging behind the door. And guess what? I found two thousand rupiah in there. I borrowed one thousand, bro. The other one thousand, I put it in this letter envelope. You better thank me, bro. Lucky I didn’t borrow both. Hehehe…
Lupus was clearly annoyed. He thought the one thousand rupiah in the envelope from Lulu was like a bribe, payment for reading or some kind of incentive to make him think. Little did he know it was his own money. He ended up being short of one thousand rupiah!
But being a good big brother, considering the situation, Lupus felt sorry. No matter how naughty Lulu was, she’s still a troublemaker!
But Lupus cares. He couldn’t bear to see Lulu sad. Especially to the point of writing a letter, it must be a heavy burden she’s carrying.
Lupus didn’t have much appetite for lunch. It’s not a big deal. Mom hasn’t cooked anything except plain rice in the kitchen.
“If you’re really hungry, just eat the plain rice for now, bro,” Mom shouted from the kitchen, seeing her son pacing back and forth in front of the dining table while occasionally opening his mouth.
But Lupus didn’t pay much attention to Mom’s advice. Because he immediately sat down. He was determined to cheer up his injured sister. He had to reply to her letter now…
“Lulu…
You’re actually a talented kid who can be strong. It’s easy, as long as you do push-ups, jogging, and lift weights often, you’ll definitely be stronger.
So you won’t whine too much (like a violin, whine whine!) when you’re heartbroken like this.
You should be strong, Lu.
Don’t embarrass Lupus. Don’t dwell on it just because of a guy. You’re a cool, good kid, and now you know who Suryadi Mulya Sirondamalam, uh, Rondamalu really is.
Just forget about it.
Okay, Lu. Don’t be sad anymore. Face everything with your sweet smile. Or if you can’t smile yet, listen to my story about Gusur who managed to conquer a rodeo.
You know rodeo, right? It’s that wild bull that always bucks when ridden. Whoever can stay on the rodeo the longest gets a prize. And most people only last a few minutes before getting thrown off. But when Gusur rode it, turns out he didn’t fall off for a whole 30 minutes.
Is Gusur amazing because he’s chubby?
Turns out, no, Lu. Gusur was actually considered a sibling to the bull. They looked alike, hehehe…
Come on, laugh, Lu! Isn’t the story funny?
Well, then, just laugh it off by yourself, Lu. I’m sure you’ll find it amusing. Hehehe…
Good evening,
from your ever sweeter big brother,
Lupus
NB: Oh, by the way, Lu, earlier when I was about to put this reply letter, I playfully rummaged through your study desk drawer. And guess what? I found two pieces of chocolate. But you don’t have to thank me, Lu, because I’ve already eaten both. Hehehe…
And that very afternoon, Lupus planned to make Lulu happy. He planned to take her to watch a movie at the cinema. Or if she didn’t want to, then we could watch a cartoon movie on TV.
In the late afternoon, Lupus had already taken a shower. And of course, he brushed his teeth. After showering, I helped Mom. Cleaning the room… wait, why am I singing?
After tidying up, he waited for Lulu to come home at the front door. Snacking on rice (just kidding!), and reading magazines. Mom was amazed to see her son already showered in the late afternoon.
“Unusual, Pus, you’re already neat. Where are you going, Mpok?” teased Mom.
“Shopping, Bu Erte!”
Mom entered while giggling.
Meanwhile, Lulu arrived. Lupus immediately stood up. He wanted to surprise her. To make Lulu touched.
But wait, why is she with another new guy again? Who is that?
And it seems like she doesn’t remember the issue from earlier this afternoon at all.
Just ignore it.
In fact, that guy even made plans.
“See you later tonight? At the KC cinema.”
Lulu nodded sweetly.
Oh, is that the gardener in front of your door? He’s not bad either.
Lulu also nodded.
“Well then, Mang, I’ll take my leave,” the guy said to Lupus.
Lupus, who was already annoyed from the beginning, became even more annoyed at being mistaken for a gardener.
“Yeah, sure, sure. By the way, it’s been a while, huh? You became a motorcycle taxi driver!” Lupus yelled in frustration.
The guy laughed.
Meanwhile, Lulu immediately went into her room.
Lupus was still puzzled outside. He had the intention to help, but instead, he was mistaken for a gardener.
“Yo, Pus, Pus,” Lulu’s voice came from inside the room. “Did you send me a letter or something? What’s your deal, dude? Hold on to the letter for a sec. I haven’t had the chance to read it yet. I need to take a quick shower before Rico picks me up!”
Oh my gosh!
Lupus was dumbfounded.
