WEIRD INCIDENT AT THE CEMETERY

The Unsociable Drakuli Part 6

As usual, that night the cemetery was quiet and eerie. The wind blew fiercely, creating terrifying sounds. The hoots of owls from the branches of the waru tree added to the creepy atmosphere. And the moon was still shyly shining like yesterday. It was the rainy season, and that night the weather was cloudy. Thunder roared loudly, and the moonlight, which was already fading, was eventually swallowed by dark clouds. Then the drizzle started. The night became colder and scarier.

From behind the bushes, Kodir and his friends waited anxiously. Their eyes were fixed on the markers that were newly installed earlier in the afternoon. It was truly a boring job. If they didn’t have their families to feed, Kodir and his friends would have already run away from there. But they had to fulfill their boss’s assignment. Well, unless they wanted to get fired.

Minutes passed, making Kodir and his friends anxious. But the person they were waiting for, the one who would pull out the markers, still hadn’t shown up. Kodir and his friends grew more restless.

“Maybe the one pulling out the markers isn’t a person, but really a Dracula like the residents said,” Sabri, Kodir’s friend who was known to be the most scaredy-cat, exclaimed with a worried tone.

Bobong, another friend of Kodir, shivered from the cold. His teeth chattered, creating a chilling sound.

“Whether it’s a ghost or not, one thing’s for sure, we have to catch the marker-puller,” Kodir said, trying to calm everyone down.

“Yeah, besides, there’s no such thing as ghosts. It’s just our imagination,” Dudung, another friend of Kodir, chimed in. But his voice was filled with doubt. Who knows, maybe the one pulling out the markers is really some kind of supernatural creature. Scary…

Time continued to crawl. The wind blew fiercely, rustling the leaves of the tall trees and creating a creepy sound. Kodir tightened his sarong. His eyes were getting heavy. The same went for his other friends. They were getting bored. It was half past one. But the person they were waiting for, the one who would pull out the boundary markers, still hadn’t shown up.

“Yawn…! If it’s already one o’clock and they still haven’t shown up, let’s just go home, guys!” Dudung suggested.

“Hush, easy for you to say. What if they come at two o’clock and pull out the markers? Don’t stir up trouble. You know our boss is really strict,” Bobong intervened.

Dudung nodded. Then they fell silent again. Only the sound of tobacco being lit could be heard from the cigarette. Kodir remained steadfast, keeping his gaze fixed on the markers.

And that’s when Kodir faintly saw two black figures emerging from the bushes.

Crack! Kodir startled.

“Shh… look!” Kodir pointed to his friends, who immediately jumped in surprise when they saw what Kodir was referring to.

“Are they people or demons? But it seems like…” Sabri asked anxiously. But before Sabri’s question could be answered, suddenly the two black figures, one tall and the other wearing a cloak, burst into laughter.

“HAHAHAHA…!” Their laughter echoed throughout the cemetery.

“Deeeemons! Help, there are deeeemons!” Sabri screamed in fear, and immediately ran away while wetting himself. Kodir’s other friends, who were already terrified, followed Sabri. They all ran away in a panic.
